The delegation of the Higher Negotiation Committee (HNC), headed by the General Coordinator, Dr. Riad Hijab, met French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters on Tuesday morning, May 30.
During the meetings, Dr. Hijab stressed the Syrian opposition's commitment to the political process and its support for any agreement that contributes to the implementation of UN resolutions and the improvement of the humanitarian situation for Syrians.
The General Coordinator of the Higher Negotiation Committee expressed the necessity to adopt a new strategy for the negotiating process that reduces the suffering of the Syrians and gives them a glimmer of hope, praising the statement by the French Foreign Minister on the need to lead the Geneva talks to stop the violations against the Syrian people.
In meetings with the French president and his Foreign Minister this morning, the Committee discussed means of cooperation in fighting terrorism and confronting extremist groups that are threatening global security. The talks also discussed the escalation campaign that the regime and its allies are preparing throughout Syria, especially on the Syrian-Iraqi border, the southern provinces and in rural Aleppo and Hama, and their efforts to undermine any international consensus to stop the fighting.
Dr. Hijab also expressed his gratitude for France's positions in support of the Syrian revolution and the rights of the Syrian people, calling for an active European role in the diplomatic process.
