Hijab meets Senator Bennett and confirms the end of Assad's role in SyriaDate Posted: 20 April 2017
The General Coordinator of the High Negotiations Commission , Dr. Riad Hijab, met yesterday in the Jordanian capital Amman, Senator Michael Bennett. He stressed that there is slackness in international attitudes towards the barbaric escalation and forced displacement of Iranians and their sectarian militias against the people of Syrian cities. He also pointed to the continued use of internationally prohibited weapons in bombing residential areas such as cluster bombs, phosphorus and others.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in the political process and the ongoing crimes against the Syrian people by the Assad regime, the Iranian militias and Russia.
He pointed out that Washington should "play an active role in Syria to curb Russian and Iranian arrogance and to put an end to the criminality against the Syrians. He said that "firm positions are the only way to stop the ongoing massacres in Syria."
He stressed that Bashar al-Assad is a "war criminal" and cannot be part of any transitional phase in Syria. He added that the continuation of Russian and Iranian support is the main reason why Bashar did not accept the political process and his insistence on continuing the massacres against the Syrian people.
