Dr. Hijab in Washington: American strikes changed the rules of the game in SyriaDate Posted: 08 April 2017
Dr. Riad Hijab, the General Coordinator of the Higher Negotiations Committee, held a series of meetings with diplomats and US officials in Washington DC in which he stressed the importance of the limited strikes that targeted Sha'irat airport for deterring the regime from continuing to kill the Syrian people.
Dr. Hijab's visit included talks with Senator Marco Rubio, Senator James Lankford, and a number of political figures at the Atlantic Council. He stressed the importance of the adoption of a new strategy by the United States in dealing with the Syrian file, stressing the need to deal decisively with the regime to stop committing violations and to sit at the negotiation table.
Hijab added that the military strikes represent an important message to the supporters of the regime that the rules of the game had changed, so that Russia will not be able to continue disrupting Security Council resolutions.
The General Coordinator of the Higher Negotiations Committee held the Assad regime responsible for the situation in Syria, considering that the continuous war crimes committed by the regime against the Syrian people over the past six years are what brought the Syrian people to their current situation.
